marion - self titled

at the time of posting this, i know absolutely nothing about this band. just stumbled across it on my hard drive. it sounds like a more hardcore version of sinaloa or something? maybe one/some of the same guys? either way, it's pretty cool

7 songs, 20 minutes

update: apparently they were from south carolina. i recall someone from this band going on to form newgenics

pharaoh - the demonstration 2009

this demo is pretty killer, so i figured i would repost it on here. he described it as "slow. heavy. filthy." and i have to agree with that.

Hi. I'm Rich. I play guitar and sing in Pharaoh. We're a band from NJ. This is our demo. We did it ourselves. We're a 3-piece. We released this demo at our first show a few weeks ago with Moutheater(VA). We're just trying to get this out wherever we possibly can. So if you like it, let us know. If you hate it, let us know. If you feel so compelled as to send it to another fellow human being with the suggestion for them to listen to it, please do so. Much appreciated.

drowning with our anchors - you can never go home again

coming out on adagio830 sometime soon. he posted this himself, so i don't feel so bad about putting it here. it reminds me a lot of the whole 90s emo thing, with a lot of ambiance.

examination of the... and in loving memory

exam has an interesting progression, they go from noisy screamo similar to usurp synapse to heavy 10+ minute songs. everything in between is good, too. in loving memory is over the top sappy screamo with some of the highest screamed vocals i've ever heard. i have a soft spot for it. some exam stuff may still be available from init records, and init is also putting out an in loving memory discography on vinyl someday.

qwel & jackson jones - rapid eye movement

okay, this one is kind of different. chicago hip hopper qwel, with beats provided by jackson jones. i think it was released on galapagos4. it has kind of a trip hop feel to it most of the time.

hugs - self titled 12"

this was originally self released, and slave union repressed it. kind of upbeat hardcore/emo. i suggest finding an actual copy of this record, because the packaging/art is really neat.

a minor forest - inindependence

hey straight from wikipedia:

A Minor Forest was a San Francisco-based math rock band in the 1990s. They were musically related to the Louisville scene of post rock groups like Slint and had personal connections to the San Diego scene of Three Mile Pilot and related bands. Their songs had pop music, progressive rock, and punk rock influences and featured changing time signatures, sudden dynamic changes, silent pauses, unintelligible screaming, catchy, repeating melodic passages and absurd, in-joke titles. Their slogan was "A Minor Forest Supports the Destruction of Mankind." They formed in San Francisco in 1992 and, in addition to other smaller releases, put out three albums: Flemish Altruism (1996) and Inindependence (1998) on Chicago label Thrill Jockey, and So, Were They in Some Sort of Fight? (1999), a career-spanning compilation on My Pal God records. They played their last show on November 1, 1998 at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco.

this is a solo band, and he does everything live as well. there's a lot of loops, so it gets kind of repetative, but it's still good. whatever.

anger is beautiful 10"

this kind of reminds me of a heavier neil perry. love it. they're from germany, and members went on to men in search of the perfect weapon. they also did a split with zann and racebannon, but i don't have that to upload.
